Tracking a prior degree from your institution
When an admissions applicant has a prior degree from our institution, our Admissions Office business practice is to enter that data under Student Recruiting/Student Admissions > Maintain Prospects/Application Entry > Academic Information > Education. They do this to track the transcript and previous education for an applicant. However, this essentially writes the previous internal degree to the EXT_DEGREE (external degree) record. This will duplicate data already existing in the ACAD_DEGR (student degrees) record. When the alum is viewed in the Contributor Relations Person Profile, the same degree is displayed twice.
I am curious how other schools manage this. Do you post previous degrees from your institution in the External Education page when the person applies for an additional degree? If so, do you just accept that there will be duplicate records for this degree in your institution data? If not, what is your business practice?
