Siebel 7.7 BC Field Data Encryption

Hi -

We are currently using 7.7.2, Call Center and eService.  We have the need to encrypt some fields that contain private information.  Is it possible to encrypt the field after the field has already been in use?  Do we need to perform a Siebel upgrade in order to encrypt the data on the existing field?  Is it possible to encrypt in the database backend and not upgrade?

If we need to perform a Siebel version upgrade, how do we implement encryption of the field data?
