Opening .TIF file from Siebel attachments

Currently, when the user click on the hyperlink from the attachments applet on a TIF file type, a new tab in the browser is opened and the user is navigated to the new tab that is blank.  If they go back to Siebel tab, the bottom of the page has a browser popup instructing the user to open or save the attachment.  This behavior is experienced in IE in Open UI.  If the attachment is a pdf or doc file type, the new tab opens and closed automatically with the same browser popup below.

What is needed in order to have the extra tab close for a tif file?
