need to add storage to exadata

Hello,

In case it's required to add more storage to exadata ,is there only option to add another RACK or we can connect exadata machine to some SAN network outside exadata?

I think connecting to a SAN netwrok would disable the cellsrv functionality(smartscan,storage index HCC festures)
