Adding quarters to Period dimension

We use Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1   We currently have our Period dimension with yeartotal, directly below that are 13 month periods as the base time periods. (Apr – Mar and P13). The application is deployed and has been live for 4 years. There is now a requirement to add in quarters i.e. we would have Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 as children of Yeartotal, and the individual months as children of the quarters. Is it possible to make this change? I understand there are restrictions in moving base time periods.

If we cannot do this, can we create an alternate hierarchy with quarters and then the periods as shared members below that?
