Link item attribute to item category

We are creating a new item category set for the default in ASCP.  We want to define it as "planner", and set the value for each item to the same value entered by the user in the item attribute "planner_code".  It will be org-level controlled.

Is there a way to set some automation between the item attribute and the item category so that when creating new items the user does not have to set both manually?
