Full Collection rebuild that took more than 6 days to run totally (OTS and WCC 11.1.1.8)

Dear  Community,

We have run in our pre production environment a Full Collection rebuild that took morethan 6 days to run totally , we have nearly 2 millions documents and we use Oracle Text Search,

Could give us some recommandations about optimizing it,

Can we for example run the Rebuild while the application is still running ? what is the risk to have the application running while the rebuild is running,

We user WIndows Server 2008 on the server side and the database is on Linux server

Please let us know about a possible strategy to run it with the less unavailable time for our end user....
