Is there a way to invoke the pricing engine only when the line is being saved or booked?

We have orders that huge and when we are working on the order every time I move down to the next line the pricing engine is invoked.  Is there a way to set it so it only invokes if I choose to price the line or the order, or when the order is being saved or booked?  This would save us a lot of time.
