Public api to derive tax amount based on sales order amount

HI Gurus,

We are trying to built an interface outside Oracle for the Commops team. We would need to display the tax amount based on sales order even before the order is interfaced to oracle.

As per note, API for tax calculation (Doc ID 788306.1) I could see that there is no way to do this in R12.0.6.

We are on R12.1.3. So, can this be done using zx_api_pub.calculate_tax? If anyone has prior experience doing this, your inputs are highly appreciated.
