How does asset sharing work ?

So, I'm a user with all roles and ACLs in 2 Sites on Webcenter Sites 11gR1 (11.1.1.8), let them be Site_1 and Site_2.

Site_2 in newly freshly created.

On Enabling Page Asset Type for Site_2, I'm asked to choose the menu items of all Page Definitions created in Site_1. And I can create pages with these definitions no matter what their attributes (some are of assets I haven't enabled or shared even yet), yet When searching for Page Definitions or attributes in Site_2, there are no results.

How does sharing work ?

If we share an asset definition, do we need to share all the attributes included in that definition ? or do we only share attributes when we want to create an new definition ?
