Change of Latest start date to a date before last standard process date!

Latest start date.  We had an employee that got paid till the end of May 2014.  The termination date was 6 May 2014 and the last standard process and final process dates = 31 May 2014.  The employee was then re-hired with a latest start date of 1 June 2014.  This latest start date was then changed to 30 May 2014.  After this we found that the previous payroll processes till the end of May 2014 had dissapeared.  Is this normal functionality, seems odd.  Should there not have been an error message as warning that you can not change thie
