Product status for RMA orders

Hi,

Could you please explain what would happen to the existing products created through orders if any RMA is done. Does the product status change automatically? What does it mean if the type in the current location is inventory? How to expire such instances? What is the actual process to be carried for products if RMA is carried out. I don't know much about orders and RMA so detailed explanation would be helpful.
