How do I deactivate a company

We have several companies that are no longer operating that I do not want people to be able to pick as the company on A/P vouchers, G/L journal entries or A/R invoices.  The business units and account numbers are all invalid but the system still allows for the company to be chosen.  How do I make the company inactive or 'closed'?
