Spread PO Encumbances in future periods, years

Hi - We are a business requirement to spread PO Encumbances in future periods, years. But Is there a way to spread them without opening PO/GL periods.

We also have Oracle Projects. So I'm also hoping not to open PA/GL period as well.

Has anyone come across such a requirement. What was your proposed approach.

Apreciate your ideas.
