Cycling scan/local listeners - good / best practice?

11gr2 Enterprise DB RAC env on linux64. We recently had a case that resulted in our ....-scan service somehow confused/corrupted, and were directed by Oracle to stop/start our local & scan listeners.   Let's assume one has to fully stop a RAC cluster only once per year for patching reasons (7x24x365).   Should the scan/local listeners be cycled more often?   Thanks... alex
