Multiple costs in standard costing organization

We are using standard costing . We want to track dual costs for a single item in a single org. I may be sounding contradictory with requirement of setting dual costs where standard can only be one. This requirement is based on huge difference between domestic and imported items that rates are needed to be tracked separately.
I am aware that one can create separate items to achieve it but we don't want to go for this option since it'll be changing operating for achieving costing.
Is there any other to achieve this need ( enabling WMS features or project functionality or cost hooks etc).
