When upgrading from 8.0.0.9 SIA to 8.1.1.11, do we need to copy the ancestor repositories?

We are upgrading from 8.0.0.9 SIA to 8.1.1.11.  Do we need to copy the ancestor repositories over before starting the upgrade?  I have run this step while upgrading from 8.1.1.X to 8.1.1.11 as part of the IRM, but am curious if it is also required when performing a full upgrade.
