Need to know the Purpose of UNIQUE_REMITTANCE_IDENTIFIER

Hi,

I want to know the purpose of Unique_remittance_idetifier in AP_INVOICES_AL table. Basically what is the functionality of the Unique Remittance Identifier in Accounts Payables.
