Control file not seeing backups after clone

I have a question regarding backups showing up in my development environment.  This is my environment.

PRD1 - Production backups nightly using recovery catalog.

DEV1 - Development database cloned from production every Sunday backed up nightly using control file.

My question is as follows.  I backup DEV1 every night but once the database is cloned from

production the control file no longer has any memory of its backups.  Which I do not know how I would restore this backup but also since the control file is no longer aware of these backups it never cleans up the FRA.  I assume this is also the case for my archivelogs and autobackups.
