2014 displaying for employees effective 2015 when hire date is in November or December.

Our waiting period for benefits is the first of the month following thirty days.  If an associate was hired in November 2014, self-service will display the 2014 rates, even though the enrollment start date will be January 1, 2015.  The suggested approach, which we have followed, is to run another life event after enrollment effective on Jan 1, so that rates are updated.  What other solutions have been tried?  There are enrollment period start rules named "sixty days before event", and "thirty days before event".  Has anyone had any success moving the life event into the following year, and processing with these enrollment rules?
