OTL Capture of Project and Task Data with Explosion EBS R12.1.3

We are trying to figure out a way that we can use timecard explosion in OTL, but still capture the number of hours per day spent on given projects/tasks.  We have been told that by using the explosion functionality that total hours are entered into OTL, but specific hours can't be associated with specific projects/tasks performed on a given day.   For example,  John works 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., spends 5 hours on Project A, spends 2 hours on Project B and 2.5 hours on Project C.   Would appreciate some insight into this.   - Thanks
