Question on the table PS_ITEM_XREF

Good day,

I have a question about PS_ITEM_XREF table, that table contains more than 330 million records which complicates the maintenance and support of the database. Is it possible to delete records from that table, and if so considerations should take?

As additional information we currently have PeopleSoft Campus Solution 8.9, PeopleTools 8.48 on a database server with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and SQL Server 2005 SP2.
