OS Patching vs Upgrading, Pre-Reqs for Solaris Cluster upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3
Hi
https://blogs.oracle.com/js/entry/solaris_10_kernel_patches, so i was reading this blog page from
@Jurgens hopefully this is the the right Jurgen.
There is an interesting sentence in the opening paragraph.
"Install the kernel patch of a Solaris 10 update release is not the same as do an upgrade to the Solaris 10 update release"
Could someone expand more on this ? I was under the impression that kernel patches were stand alone, essentially the same as intalling that peticular update level of the OS, what are the differences between as CD upgrade and a kernel patch?
I'm interested because a colleague has been advised to do a OS upgrade from disk to a specific update level (sol10 u11) instead of patching to the update level, he has been advised that this is a prerequisite to upgrading Solaris cluster 3.2 to Solaris cluster 3.3, I’m just trying to figure out a good explanation of why the upgrade is needed over patching?
