Question about setting shmmax when RAM is large
Hi
We've started buying hardware with 377 GB of memory per host. I'm putting together 12.1.0.2 Oracle Clusters, and the expected value for shmmax with the Cluster Verify Utility is that it should be 50% of memory. They copied the settings from our earlier clusters, so shmmax is now 48 GB.
If I ask for shmmax to grow to 188.8 GB, will this cause a problem somehow for the operating system or Oracle or anything else? Our system administration support is somewhat limited to installing the operating system and a few extra packages for Oracle. The new clusters could potentially hold dozens of databases, and I'd rather fix this now than later.
