Fixed Asset Question: can we the change unit number?

Hello Forum Folks,

A quick question two part question for you here.

(1) Is it possible to change the Unit Number on an asset?  The item number would stay the same.

(2) If it is, do all the associated transactions/locations/data travel with the asset?

We have some assets that were mislabeled and the shop would like to correct those.
