Searching Messages in the Work Center

I'm looking for an easier method for searching for message in the work center other than using the work center.  I'd like to know what the table are that the work center uses so that I can run queries against those tables and hopefully reduce the amount of time that it takes to search for specific information.

Can someone provide the table names and any helpful tricks for searching?
