FDMEE trouble processing HFM Data Extract in GZip format

I've tried a variety of Jython methods to unzip and process a '*.Dat.gz' created by an HFM Task Flow running a Data Extract (to file w/out header).   I have a solution that works in Eclipse (running Jython 2.5.3) but are not having success when running this code in a custom FDMEE script.  Anyone have any experience with this, or know if there is an environment setting that can be changed to simplify the process (e.g. creating a non-compressed DAT file) ?
