RMAN-06019: could not translate tablespace name

A full database backup using rman is performed and results with following errors

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-03002: failure of configure command at 02/11/2015 12:44:08

RMAN-20202: Tablespace not found in the recovery catalog

RMAN-06019: could not translate tablespace name : MTST

The recovery catalog is not used in this scenario.

Oracle version : 11.2.0.2.0

OS: Redhat Linux

Could someone please advice on how to troubleshoot and resolve above error.
