Splitting an asset and child asset

Once an Asset is in FA, how can that asset be split, along with its child assets. For example, if there is a Fixed Asset A with Cost 100 and quantity 100, how can I split this into two assets A, and B with cost 60 & 40 or quantity 60 & 40? Looking at FA documentation, there does not seem to be any functionality around it without manual intervention.
