online table redefinition - Intermediate Synchronization mechanism

Hello,

I would like to know if someone can direct me to any documentation where I can read and understand how the SYNC_INTERIM_TABLE procedure works. The main thing I want to know is where it pulls the DML statements have been executed on the original table from. If this is from flashback/undo/redo or if it's done in any other way.
