R12.1.3 FND: Enable Cancel Query

We had someone perform a search without enough parameters, and the a consultant asked why we did not have FND: Enable Cancel Query turned on. 

We tested it and while the pop up is great, it took over 40 minutes for the item to cancel.  I got multiple errors, see attached. 

Is this normal?  Everything I read on the subject talks about performance issues and this profile being turned on.  I do NOT want to turn this on if it will cause performance issues.  I also don't want to turn it on if it take 40 minutes for the thing to roll back and just lose connection.  It will just cause confusion in the field.
