Lot/Location Change Not Allowed

We are receiving the following error when trying to do a negative adjustment to inventory, and not sure why the error or how to get around it:

Lot/Location Change Not Allowed

Cause... Lot/Serial Number changes are not allowed when
performing a negative material issue
Resolution... Material must be returned
to inventory with the same lot/serial number assignment that was originally used
to withdraw from inventory

These are the steps that we took that resulted in the error:

- Go to Inventory Issues

- Search for and open specific work order

- carry out an inventory issue for one inventory item against one location
