How to change compatibility attribute for 12c ASM

I currently have several 10gR2 (10.2.0.5) databases using a 12cR1 (12.1.0.2) ASM disk group which was just upgraded from 11.2.0.4.5.

I am now using the 12c database installer to also create a new database. After selecting the existing ASM Disk group, I get a window

reporting "INS-30521 Selected Disk group can not be used as storage location". Further details reveals:

Cause - Installer has detected that the value of ASM compatiblity attribute of the diskgroup DBF1 is 11.2.0.0.0.The value of the

attribute should be atleast 12.1.0.0.0 to use it as storage location for the database. 

Action - Update the value of ASM compatibility attribute of the diskgroup to 12.1.0.0.0. Refer to the Storage Adminstration
