ARM - dataload: "unable to contact fdmee application"

We bounce our FCM (ARM) system nightly. Suddenly after the bounce, during the DataLoad of just a file in ARM for a specific period, we get a pop up first that says:

"unable to contact fdmee application"

Then, we get a bigger error window raising a JAVA error exception - null pointer message.

What can you all suggest?  We are going to attempt another system bounce to hopefully fix this. Can such a scenario be common?

Dataloads have been working fine up until this point.
