Reimplementation Vs. Upgrade Oracle Assets

In oracle Assets 11i business has  single segment for oracle Assets, now business wants to go for two in upgradation to R12. In upgradation we cannot change the Key flexfield.

Now our question is can we go for the reimplementation of FA and remaining modules upgradation??.

If Yes is there any process??
