Custom Database Objects converted from 11i to 12.2

Why is the upgrade process creating editioning views for custom tables.  We will never create a child version of our custom table.  It is extra overhead we don't need, and I don't understand why the upgrade process in creating these views on its own.  To further complicate the issue some custom tables have editioned views created automatically and some do not.
