FA Smart Fields AssetDC vs AssetRT

Could some explain the difference in how these two smart fields work?   I have a report using both of these fields.   ASSETDC seems to ignore the reporting period/year entered in the processing options and always users the Financial Reporting period/year on the Company (F0010),   Where as the ASSETRT will use the processing option period/year unless left blank, in which case it will go to the Financial Reporting period/year on the F0010.    Why is there a difference and is this functionality correct?
