Rehire not working for one EE - getting Date Conflict errors- Date in Current Position; but can rehi

I've checked all the date combos in the error message (below) and only found the highlighted date discrepancy.   

Issue:
We cannot rehire one employee and getting date conflict errors; can successfully rehire other previously terminated employees. It doesn’t work in PD and the same thing happens in PY. 

After entering data to rehire in Employee Information P0801EMP, it does not save and the employee remains in terminated status; however, in the Organizational Assignment P0801ORG, the Date in Current Position does not change from original hire date and the Date in Current Job changes to whatever was entered as the new Date Started (that was not saved in P0801EMP). One cannot change the Date in Current Position in the P0801ORG; 1) there are no position IDs to change which would default a new system date in
