Question about restore point and archive logging

I have a little bit of confusion about restore points and archivelogging.. normally we have archivelog mode on .. flashback on and before an upgrade I would create a restore point and if something goes wrong I flashback to the restore point.  However this time around we have a vendor doing a heavy modification and asked that archivelogging be turned off..  so .. if I take a full back up then make a restore point and then proceed to turn flashback off and archivelogoff .. if something goes wrong with the upgrade .. at this point do I need to
