No items found while trying to add material requirements for a non standard job

I have created a non standard expense job. When i am trying to add items in the material requirements, no list of values for items is displayed. I checked for the basic attributes for the item and they all seem to be fine. What could be the possible reason for no items to appear in the list of values in the material requirements screen
