Custom Report Header

We have a custom report that has formatting issues depending on how it's printed. The default setting is to print immediately. When it is printed immediately the format of the header is condensed- there is no spacing. When the same report is printed from submitted jobs the spacing and format is correct. Nothing else in the report is affected. How is this possible and how can it be corrected?
