How can I get the Field name from which a drill down occurs in a Siebel applet?

I am aware of some ways to extract an item identifier using browser scripts. however this value keeps changing whenever a new column is added to the applet.

Is there another way to do this? Basically in the scenario, there are multiple drilldowns in the applet which navigate to separate external urls.
