zpool showing faulty disks as good

A couple of days ago a disk failed on a T2000:

solaris10:/# zpool status

state: DEGRADED

solaris10:/#

Pretty standard.  I opened an SR and, among other things, Oracle asked me to reboot the server.  Sure enough the server refused to boot:

{0} ok boot

Boot device: disk0  File and args:

zfs-file-system

Loading: /platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200/boot_archive

Loading: /platform/sun4v/boot_archive
