zpool showing faulty disks as good

A couple of days ago a disk failed on a T2000:

solaris10:/# zpool status

  pool: rpool

state: DEGRADED

scrub: resilver completed after 0h19m with 0 errors on Thu Nov 13 11:35:35 2014

config:

        NAME          STATE     READ WRITE CKSUM

        rpool         DEGRADED     0     0     0

          mirror      DEGRADED     0     0     0

            c0t0d0s0  REMOVED      0     0     0

            c0t1d0s0  ONLINE       0     0     0

errors: No known data errors

solaris10:/#

Pretty standard.  I opened an SR and, among other things, Oracle asked me to reboot the server.  Sure enough the server refused to boot:

{0} ok boot

Boot device: disk0  File and args:

zfs-file-system

Loading: /platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200/boot_archive

Loading: /platform/sun4v/boot_archive
