Is it possible to set up an active data guard on Oracle 9i between IBM Aix 5.2 and Oracle Linux?

Hi all,

one of my customers still has an Oracle 9i Enterprise with Data Guard on AIX 5.2, P-series cpu. They still have extended maintenance with Oracle Support, but they say they cannot migrate this database to another version. They have active data guard replicating to another site on another machine with AIX, that is costing a lot in terms of maintenance. Now they would like to dismiss this machine and put the standby database on a machine with Oracle Linux.

I told them that it is not possible, since I've found a lot of Oracle docs that say that you can only have an heterogeneous standby database starting from 10gR2 database version.
