How to correct the quantity for an item in the inventory?

Hi there

I'm newbie int this stuff, I just type a wrogn quantity for an item, I'd like to know the correct method in order to decrease the quantity for that item, so it can be reflected in teh inventory with no errors nor discrepancies.
