Can you search text in media object without creating a c-business function or NER?

Is there a system function or built business function to search text in media object. we have a requirement where we need to extract a portion of the media object text on a report. I have tried using a NER and C to loop thru each character and substring the value. this is not always error proof wondering if there is anything out of the box.
