Oracle ASM compatibility with MPIO tools

Hi,

We have RHEL nodes in an Oracle RAC cluster with ASM, and are using the native Linux DM MPIO for multipathing.

We have named the devices persistently via the /etc/multipath.conf file and have labeled these for the ASM disks.

We were looking for an answer to the following two questions we had:

(a) With RHEL, does Oracle mandate going with the native Linux DM MPIO for multipathing (if it is to be implemented) or does Oracle support other MPIO tools like EMC Powerpath?

(b) If the multipathing application is changed while the Oracle cluster DB is active, for e.g. from EMC powerpath where devices are named as "emcpowerx" to the native DM where devices get re-named as "/dev/mapper/mpathx", how does this impact the ASM disks that used the device names for labeling? Will the ASM and DB have to be reconfigured? Will we have to schedule downtime to do this?

Howdy, Stranger!
