Registration questions

I've been looking for some information on the registration cache and how the ACME handles it between an HA pair.  Each one must have its own cache, but do they sync every now and again?  What happens when it fails from one node to the other?  Does the cache get copied over?  How is it possible the standby node has more registrations in cache than the active node?
