What is SIPREC? / Why is SIPREC important?

To enhance and standardize recording capabilities on session border controllers, Acme Packet has implemented the SIP Recording protocol (SIPREC) on its Net-Net 3820 and Net-Net 4500 series SBCs. SIPREC on Acme Packet Session border controllers enables call centers, enterprises and service providers to record sessions easily with any additional recording products.

What is SIPREC?

SIPREC is a standardized SIP-based protocol (IETF) for recording voice and video sessions by actively ‘forking’ the media from an SBC to a passive recording server (e.g., Net-Net Interactive Session Recorder [NN ISR]).  In this way, the SBC simplifies recording, interoperates with any recording vendor, scales gracefully, delivers high-availability and eliminates impact on live calls or sessions.
