Cancelling an event question

Does anyone know...if you cancel an event in an 'Open' status, does the module send an email to any invited bidders/vendors?  We have several old events in 'Open' status that we'd like to cancel but we don't want to generate any emails due to the confusion it may cause based on the age and the fact the events were never posted.

We are on version 8.8.
